Local communities build and sustain peace: strengthening women and youth participation in building sustainable peace in Kenya
The project “Local Communities Build and Sustain Peace: Strengthening Women and Youth Participation in Building Sustainable Peace in Kenya” is funded by the Global Network of Women Peace Builders with support from Austrian Development Agency. It is implemented in Uasin Gishu and Bungoma counties and its main objective is to effectively localize UNSCR1325 and the supporting resolutions on Women, Peace, and Security at the grassroots level.
Some of the interventions under this project are: mapping of peacebuilding initiatives; national forums on WPS implementation and women’s political and economic participation; localization workshops and “write-shops”; Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) training for local and national actors; training of women candidates and leaders; WPS training for journalists; and a Media and WPS competition.
The project has undertaken several initiatives in response to the COVID-19 pandemic that have included the distribution of dignity kits and food donations to 170 vulnerable families, women and girls in Uasin Gishu that were greatly affected by the pandemic; and dissemination of COVID-19 public health messages and life-saving information to approximately 4,500,000 peopel through Radio Mambo in Bungoma County, Upendo FM in Uasin Gishu County, Kalya FM in West Pokot and P.K Radio in Bungoma (Mt.
